Standards-based evaluation
What is Standards-Based Evaulation?
Benignus is now completely a standards-based evaluation school. Grades and report cards will now evaluate skills and TEKS with a 1-4 scale rather than a number grade in a generic subject. TEKS, or Texas Essential Knowledge Standards, are the state standards a student must learn. Click on a bullet point below to learn more:

- This video is a great overview of SBE/SBG
- KISD Rubric and Parent Letter
- 4th Grade Math TEKS
- 4th Grade Science TEKS
- 4th Grade Social Studies TEKS
What Will This Look Like?
- Minor grades will assess one TEK, or skill, at a time
- Major grades will be cumulative
- If a student receives a 1, 2, or 3 on a minor grade, they will be able to "level up." They will do another assignment on that skill for the opportunity to increase their grade.
- Report cards will have all skills listed and the corresponding 1-4 evaluation.
- Skyward will still have a traditional number grade (this information is under the KISD rubric above)
Your child has access to the following resources to use at home and school (will update soon)
